Bishop Robert Schaefer urges all rostered and lay members of the Florida-Bahamas Synod to attend one of four Lenten Visits occurring around the Synod in February and March.

Dear friends in Christ,

The Lenten journey from ashes to Easter is about to start. Lent is a baptismal journey. It is a time for Christians to reflect on and be renewed in the covenant God made with us when we were joined to Jesus’ dying and rising in the water of Baptism as we prepare to celebrate that new life at Easter.

As part of your Lenten discipline, four Bishop’s Lenten Visits and Synod Discipleship Events have been scheduled throughout the state for your participation:

  • February 20, 2016 – St. Stephen, Pompano Beach
  • February 27, 2016 – St. Mark by the Sea, Palm Coast
  • March 12, 2016 – Redeemer, Sun City Center
  • March 19, 2016 – Joy, Ocala

In light of the events in Charleston and many other places over the past year, our discipleship time will center on how as Christians we can begin the important conversation about race and privilege in our own communities.

I am challenging, hoping, dare I say expecting, every pastor, every rostered lay leader, every synod deacon, every congregation, council/leadership team member, and every faithful disciple from all of our congregations to attend.

Pastors, encourage your entire leadership team/council as well as other members of the congregation to sign up! Here is a bulletin insert for your use.

Council/Leadership Team, encourage your pastor and rostered leaders to come. Let them know you want to witness the renewal of their vows to public ministry. Invite any interested congregational disciples to join you. Here is a bulletin insert for your use.

I urge all of you to commit to one of these events as part of your Lenten discipline, continuing our effort to ignite and connect congregations, renewing and building relationships to more faithfully walk together in God’s mission.

Please go to and click on your choice of venue on the left-hand side of the Home page. We need an idea how many to plan for, so please register. However, all are welcome regardless of registration.
